If I Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda .....

Okay, so I am very fortunate to be able to do this renovation. I know that, but a girl can dream, right? So, here goes.....

If I was a Millionaire

  1. I would have bought an apartment with a terrace. And a hot tub. And lots of plants. I know this is not going to happen, but Oprah says you have to "put your dreams out into the universe and then the universe will deliver." Hello? Universe? Are you there? Its Me Margaret.

Okay, but Seriously, If I Had a Little Bit More Money and More Time, I Would Have:

1).  Made the Bathroom Door & the Bedroom Door into a "Secret Bookcase Passage" ~ Wouldn't that be cool? I always wanted a secret door that was a bookshelf, you say "open sesame!" and the door miraculously opens into a secret room. I'd settle for a bathroom and a bedroom. I could have made the hallway by the bathroom & bedroom lined with bookcases. And the "doors" could have pivoted out revealing the rooms inside. It would be very cool. Maybe if I win the lotto next week....

2).   24-C I am sadly not going to be a 24-C'er any more. Sigh. Someday 24-C I will come back to you hopefully. In another time, another place, with a terrace...... You have served me well 24-C. How will anyone remember where I live now?

3).   Washer & Dryer (Yes, I know I live in the Big Apple, but Oprah says....

This is a dream photo, not my actual apartment.

Really. Seriously. This Stuff I Hope to Do in the Next Year or Two:

1) Trim out my bookcases with fancy molding so they look like they are built in.  Something like this nifty secret bookshelf door.  Or this one.  But seriously, if you are in love with bookshelves as much as I am, you should definitely checkout www.bookshelfporn.com  It is a fabulous site with lots to dream about.

2) Get a couple more bookshelves so they can run the entire length of the living room / dining area. In the dining area, have some benches built so it looks like the bench is built in seating for the dining room table.

3) Get a friend for my little Roomba. He would love a "Scooba" buddy to play with.

4) Build in some kicking closet shelves, drawers, etc. in the 3 closets. I don't really know what I will do with 3 closets. I have 2 now and one is teeny tiny. So maybe I don't really need to be the Queen of the California Closets but it would be cool.

5) Dyson: Okay, I know it is weird, but I do have a strange fascination with vacuums and cleaning products. You wouldn't think this would be so, considering how sloppy and messy I am. But, I've always said I am "internally organized" which allows me to be so "externally disorganized." I doubt anyone believes me, but.....

Things I am in the Midst of Doing for the Big Move:

1) Don't tell the guy who will be living a floor below me, but I am searching for the perfect Auntie Mame antique cabinet door knobs and pulls. Someone told me it would look awful. But, what Aunti Mame wants, Aunti Mame gets.

2) I already purchased a couple of really rocking antique doorknobs off eBay. Remember the old brass door knobs from the Board of Ed? Well someone is making a mint selling them on eBay. I am the proud owner of 3 sets. One more and I've got every door covered.

3) I have a weird obsession with the old glass towel rods? Remember those from old hotels? Most were white, some were clear, some were jadeite green or blue? Guess who hasn't bought towel rods at Home Depot yet?

4) I am going to buy some glass shelves. Something like this glass shelf but in brushed nickel to match the rest of the bathroom.

5) I am watching YouTube videos on how to use a sewing machine. I swapped for a brand new one a couple of years ago. I only could figure out how to sew 3 stitches. But I am determined to make some new cloth napkins. If I can't figure it out I am going to blame YouTube for not captioning their videos.

6) Now that I will have a dishwasher, I am going to buy more silverware. I kept it to a set of four, thinking it would make me do the dishes more regularly. It worked. But now I have a dishwasher, I am thinking I could actually have 6 or 8 knives. Why not live on the edge?

7) I am beyond excited about schlepping to the thrift stores to pick out some really nifty china tea cups. I love picking out tea cups and saucers. I have this great day dream about sitting in a rocking chair, complete with a quilt, book in hand, glasses perched upon my nose and a steaming cup of tea perfectly parked in its saucer beside me. (Okay, I don't need glasses, I doubt I will ever be able to sew a quilt, napkins seem challenging at this point and I don't think I have room for a rocking chair, but its a dream. Right Oprah? Hear me Universe?
